Teddy’s 5th Birthday!

We celebrated Teddy’s 5th birthday by letting him skip preschool and headed to the arcade for a fun day of games and played lots and lots of the Jellyfish game which is his absolute favorite game. Then we had a special lunch at the Aquarium restaurant, where Teddy had so much fun watching the different ocean critters swim around that he barely touched his food. Afterwards we visited a candy shop and let Teddy fill a bag full of all sorts of gummies, before heading home. I made Teddy his favorite dinner of spaghetti and meatballs before he blew out his candles on his woolly mammoth cake. Check out our YouTube video for a cute recap of Teddy’s first 5 years of life.

Memphis Weekend Trip

We had a quick trip to Memphis for Evie’s soccer tournament. We lucked out with a pretty awesome game schedule, so we snuck in a few activities. After a morning of soccer games, we headed to the Memphis Zoo, which is one of our favorite zoos to visit. Teddy and Jack were so enamored with all the animals and with it being a slightly chilly day, all the animals were out so that made for a wonderful time. We spent almost 5 hours there and we were lucky enough to catch one of the weekly feedings for the Komodo dragons. Afterwards we headed to cabin to retire early for night. After a great night sleep with our crazy crew, we enjoyed a nice breakfast at the KOA and the kids played on the playground before heading out for the rest of Evie’s soccer tournament. On the drive back home, we decided to check out Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo, TN. I have been wanting to check this place out for so long and it did not disappoint. We got to feed so many animals and they were not shy. Jack, Teddy and Evie were all too scared to feed the animals, so James and I got to have all the fun. We will definitely be coming back, as we ran out of time before we could explore it all. Check out our YouTube video for a fun recap of our Memphis Trip.

Garden Helpers

Our new garden boxes arrived, and Jack and Teddy were more than happy to assist in assembling them and making sure all the screws were properly tightened. Then we filled them up with lots of garden debris, mulch and 10 times more dirt than you think would be necessary. After several days of hard work, lots of fun searching for bugs, waterplay and a little bit of planting we are finally about halfway done with prepping our garden for the season. Check out our YouTube video for a fun recap of our gardening adventure!

Easter

The kids woke up Easter morning with baskets filled with yummy treats and toys from the Easter bunny. The little boys loved their new gardening tools and butterfly garden set, while the two girls were very happy with their new jellycats. Then we enjoyed a delicious brunch of cinnamon rolls, lemon rolls, orange rolls and Italian Easter bread before we began our egg hunt. Teddy and Jack loved searching for all the small candy filled eggs while the older three frantically searched for the hidden golden eggs which contained slightly more valuable prizes. Then we dyed eggs and Evie had a blast making her eggs look like different fruits and vegetables. We ended our evening with a lovely feast of lamb lollies, bunny bread, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, mac and cheese and caramelized onions and carrots.

Spring Break

For spring break, we took a mini camping trip to Mammoth Caves National Park. Since it was a short three-day weekend trip we decided to rent a cabin instead of our usual tent camping. The cabin worked out beautifully as we had a massive down pour on Saturday, so I was quite glad not to have a soggy campsite. Evie’s soccer tournament ended up getting canceled because of the rain, which worked out well for us as it gave us lots more time to explore. We explored this old school taxidermy cave museum which ended up being really cool before heading back to the cabin Saturday night. On Sunday, we started out the morning at Kentucky Down Under. The kids, especially Teddy, loved seeing all the animals and we had fun spelunking through Mammoth Onyx Cave. In the afternoon we visited Dinosaur World which the little boys really loved. On Monday, we explored Mammoth Caves National Park and Toren was our expert tour guide. After a good three-hour hike and mini cave exploration, we stopped by this delicious Amish restaurant for lunch before heading back to Nashville.
